Design an Emergency Shelter is the name given to the contest proposed by Core77 an online design magazine. The call to arms is modeled after their famous one hour contest challenge.
Designers are invited to propose until Feb 28, an ermergency shelter designed in an hour.
The horrific drama going on in Haiti was the inspiration behind the project. The proposed shelters will probably not profit the island, however the winner will see a donation of $500 to Architecture for Humanity‘s Haiti Earthquake. Architecture for humanity is a non profit association founded in 1999, with the goal of “building a more sustainable future through the power of professional design.”
One interesting aspect of the competition is that submissions are public and you can discover what has been done as it happens. I encourage all interested in design and to propose their ideas, as not only will it help with cash today, but it might make a difference when the next disaster hits somewhere.
