The Dorm Room Mini Fridge Freezer

by Jenna Jackson

Around the world every year finds hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of new university students living in small rooms in college dormitories.  These students face a variety of common issues adjusting to their new life that any former college student would recognize.  One of the problems they face is the issue of how to address food storage in their dorm rooms; the ideal solution – the dorm mini fridge freezer.

While most likely accustomed to a large refrigerator in their pre-college years, moving to a dorm room is a major downshift in lifestyle for a student.  Without a refrigerator in the dorm room, the change can be even more abrupt than need be.  The addition of a dorm mini fridge to a student’s housing can help ease the transition.

For only one hundred and fifty US dollars, it is possible to get a nicely feature dorm fridge freezer with a capacity of around five cubic feet.  These mini fridge freezers will allow all the important functionality to be found in a full sized refrigerator – refrigeration, freezing, and even the ability to store ice cube trays.

A quick look at any of the mini fridges on the market shows that most of them have a nice flat surface on top.  In the limited confines of a dorm room this can be a god send.  While placing a dorm fridge in a student’s room will use a couple of square feet of precious floor space, students gain an equivalent amount of ‘countertop’ space back by using the top of their small fridge for storage or meal preparation.

While most will love this functionality, many students are cash strapped and may balk at the price.  Luckily for them, due to the constant turnover of enrollment at any university, there is inevitably a steady supply of used mini fridge freezers coming on to the market.  This stream of cheap pre-owned dorm fridges makes it financially feasible for almost any student to buy one.
