How to Deal with Two Pets

by J Courtney

Some people, especially when they are alone in a home, find adopting a pet to be very comfortable. Pets can give you enjoyment, relaxation and companionship every time you needed it the most. But some people have hearts that are too big for just one pet and end up adopting two or more pets simultaneously. Well, there’s nothing really wrong about that, as long as you can take care of them both at the same time and no one will have less attention than the other, you can have two pets.

Having two pets would probably mean a double up in expenses for food, medicines and hospitalization in case your pet – or worse the two of them – had an accident or illness. Having a pet insurance would likely be the answer to your financial problems. Unlike other pet insurances, ASDA pet insurance gives you a discount for every pet you enroll with them and choose coverage that you think will suit you. ASDA offers you the best dog insurance ever!

Better choose to have a cat and a dog instead of having two dogs or two cats when adopting two pets. Although they normally don’t get along well, you might find the two of them pretty amusing and fun. But it is also not impossible for cats and dogs to be best friends. You just have to learn how to choose the best pairing. Take into consideration cats’ or dogs’ likes and dislikes before getting them a companion opposite to them.

If you decide to have the same species as pets, you might as well double the love you give them. Two dogs will require more energy from you as dogs are pretty energetic animals. But it is rewarding to see them grow together and end up being your best friends. Also, having two pets of the same species will help you study their behavior and you can probably observe the differences and their uniqueness.

If getting two cats is your option, you still have to consider their personalities. Some cats are pretty aggressive and you may find them bullying the other cat. If you have this situation you might as well take things slowly, like feeding them in separate places, buying several litter boxes and providing safe places where they could hide if they need to. Never force your cats to interact. Let them get to know each other by letting them play in the same room. Rubbing tuna juice on each cat’s head will also trick them to groom each other and encourage them to interact. It may take a little time to make your cats become best friends but just wait and be patient.

Adopting two pets is not a decision to be taken impulsively. You must take into account several things like time and money. You don’t adopt two pets to ruin their lives nor to make yours any more difficult. But for pet lovers, adopting two pets doesn’t mean additional burden and more work. They oftentimes treat this as more fun and more love.
