The Lemon Juice Diet

The Lemon Juice Diet is not exactly a diet but rather a detox regimen, or purification of the body type of diet.

Lemons contain water (81-88%), carbohydrates, proteins, critic acid, malic acid, mineral salts (sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron) and oligoelements (silicon, manganese, copper). They are rich in vitamin C (75 mg per 3.5 oz juice) but they also contain other vitamins in small quantities: A, B1, B2, D, E, PP, pantothenic acid.

Properties of lemon juice: it is an antiscorbutic, bactericidal, antiseptic; it plays a role in the activation of white blood cells and in body defense, strong alkalizing febrifuge, refreshing, toning the nervous system, cardiac tonic, and hypotensive, diuretic, antigout, antirheumatic, and vermifuge.

Lemons strengthen the immune system and slow the aging process.

Lemon juice diet is recommended for the treatment of scurvy in cardiovascular disease, capillary fragility, blood hyperviscosity, anemia, homophile, arthritis, gout, fatigue, liver, biliary and urinary lithiasis, biliary dyskinesia, lung inflammation, bronchitis, asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, obesity, convalescence, senescence.

You can diet with the juice obtained from squeezing fresh lemons, up to 7 oz per day. In the case of diabetes the juice can be sweetened with saccharin.

Another lemon juice diet recipe is the following: start with the juice of one lemon in the first day, and then increase the amount, progressively with one lemon a day until the tenth day when you drink the juice of 10 lemons. Then you lower the quantity progressively with one lemon a day until you reach one lemon a day. It is a diet for 20 days. Drink the juice before meals, diluted with water, the dilution ratio is 1/5 to 1/7.

Such a cure can be used for general strengthening of the immune system, or in case of obesity. In urinary stones it is advisable to drink the juice of 2-4 lemons a day.

This diet is also called the lemon detox diet and it is usually used by many people combined with fast weight loss diets. Sometimes the lemon diet and a weight loss diet are considered the same, however it can never be taken as a fast weight loss that will stick.
