vertical - jumpIn one year, colleges will be holding tryouts or choosing their rookies based on the athlete’s performance. Overall, they will be looking at two things – speed and consistency. How fast a player could drive or how fast he could catch up with the opponent is just as important as how consistent he is in delivering hoops, rebounds and blocks. Both thing could be achieved through practice, by improving your speed and your vertical jump. This can easily be done through plyometrics.

First of all, let us discuss what plyometrics is. Plyometrics is an exercise that focuses on how to improve a person’sspeed and power. Proper knowledge of this jumping program would help in the production of faster, more powerful speed and vertical jump. It is done by alternating contracting and loading muscles, releasing faster, more powerful movements, whatever the person might be doing.

Muscle strength and control is the main focus of plyometrics. Since we are dealing with jumping, the muscles required to produce a higher vertical jump are the ones that need focus. It will then work on the person’s tendons, nerves and muscles to improve the speed and power of the athlete.

Plyometrics is not as easy as it sounds. In fact, it requires practice, practice and more practice together with dedication, hard work, focus and sweat. In short, you need to give your all. However, once you master plyometrics and once you see the results, you will surely be proud of the outcome.

Before performing this training, however, it is best to consult a qualified professional. Because plyometric workout needs a lot of work from your muscles, you better be sure that your muscles will not suffer from strain and that you are doing the exercises properly. This will not only improve the outcome but it will also prevent injuries that could happen due to improper training.
