Are you mourning the loss of your summer glow? As soon as my tan starts to fade, you can usually find me at my nearest drug store buying up all of the bronzing lotions I can find until I find one that looks somewhat natural. The problem with these lotions is that they usually appear orange and fake. Nothing beats a real tan but when you can’t spend the day at the beach, spray tanning is the next best thing.
We’ve all heard about the dangers of the tanning booth. I personally am not willing to risk getting skin cancer for a tan. If I have a special event coming up or even if I’m just suffering from summer nostalgia, I head to the tanning salon to get a spray tan. I’ve become a spray tan veteran, always making sure to shave and exfoliate before I enter the booth. I also pack a bag with loose fitting clothes that I don’t have to worry about getting lotion on. After getting my spray on tan I avoid sweating or getting wet and try not to shower for at least twelve hours after.
If tan lines aren’t quite your thing, go in without your underwear or bra. If you don’t mind the tan lines, feel free to leave them on as the solution washes out of most fabrics. The staff at the tanning salon will help you pick the right shade for your skin tone. They’re professionals who know what will look good with your skin so take their advice! The staff will then explain to you how the spray tanning process works. Generally, you enter the booth (with or without your underwear/bra) after the employee instructs you how to position your body. You will feel a very light mist and you will not experience any odor from the spray.
After you exit the booth, you may feel that your tan is not dark enough but rest assured, the color will accelerate after you leave the salon. My spray tan accelerator store always sees to it that I’m satisfied and makes sure my tan lasts about five days, depending on how much I exercise or shower within that time period.
The best part about spray tanning is that it is safe! The active ingredient in the solution is DHA which the FDA has found to be non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. If you’re looking to recapture your summer bronze, head to your nearest tanning salon and ask about a spray tan!
