While Chinese tea is normally best brewed in a regular Chinese clay teapot, there are times when it is more convenient to use a teapot with an infuser. These teapots are often made of glass. The tea leaves are put into the top section and water is added. The water either stays in the top section of the teapot till it is released with a small spring button, or it slowly drips through the tea leaves into the bottom chamber.
Actually, white tea is often brewed in a teapot with infuser. White tea, only recently made available outside of China, is made from tea buds and young leaves that are collected from the tea plants before they have a chance to mature. The tea itself is apparently full of health benefits.
Green tea and oolong tea are also brewed in glass teapots with an infuser often, especially in situations where they do not have their whole Chinese tea set readily available. Normally, with Chinese tea sets, you have different accessories such as tongs or long pin like needles that can be used to clean out the teapots—the whole tea leaves really do swell and may even get stuck in the teapot spout upon occasion. If you use an infuser to make tea, the tea leaves are safely contained in the upper section of the teapot.
There are different types of teapots with infusers. The very simple glass teapot with infuser where the tea drips through the tea leaves into the bottom section of the teapot is the least expensive. You can buy teapots with an insulated base which are great for setting down on a desk or any other piece of furniture that may be damaged by heat. Finally you can buy different sized teapots with an infuser, including the larger sizes which will allow you to brew several cups of tea at one time.
