The maple tree, from which the very sweet and delectable maple syrup was taken from, serves so many purposes although most of these are in food. There is the maple candy, a seemingly very simple candy to create but without a doubt, a classic favorite among young and old. And it has long been known as a favorite Christmas treat. There is of course the maple syrup which we often use during breakfast whenever we eat pancakes. But one of these amazing maple products is the maple butter. However, is maple butter really a kind of butter?
No! Maple butter is called just that because it looks like butter, more particularly because of its texture. Other people may also refer to it as organic Canadian maple sugar or cream. Perhaps it is because of its creaminess and its striking resemblance to a finely smooth peanut butter. Needless to say, it contains no dairy product for it to be called as an actual butter.
So how do you make maple butter? The lone ingredient is a Grade A type of maple syrup. This is important so as to create the best maple butter from any batch. Then you have to cook the maple syrup in a pot and make it reach up to about 112 degrees Celsius (233F). Let it remain in that temperature for a couple of minutes and then bring the heat down to about 4.4 degrees Celsius(40F). Do not forget to keep on stirring while doing these steps. Then do not let it completely cool down, instead bring the temperature back up again, only this time to only about 15 degrees Celsius(59F). Keep on stirring until you have reached your desired smoothness and spreadable consistency. Afterward, just let it to completely cool down and later on, transfer it to a clean jar. Now you have maple butter that is excellent on bread and as a frosting.
