To the non-angler fishing seems like a ridiculous pastime and to classify it as a sport would be scoffed at. For those who are in the coarse fishing fraternity it is a passion and there’s no place they’d rather be than at the side of the water enjoying some beautiful scenery. Coarse fishing is very different to sea fishing and fly fishing; it’s calmer and more relaxing than the aforementioned, it is however an acquired taste. The first time you go fishing you might not really get it. The second time though, and especially if you’ve had a couple of bites – if you’ll excuse the pun – you’ll be hooked.
One of the main reasons that draws specimen hunters to the waters edge is the anticipation. It’s the not knowing, the possibility of that one huge fish and knowing that you have outwitted that fish you set out to catch. It really is addictive; it becomes an obsession to catch bigger and stronger fish. This is why you hear about carp anglers that camp out for weeks at a time enduring the harsh weather in their bivvy to only catch one fish.
The second reason that fishing draws such a crowd is because it is a great way to relax. The stresses of modern life mean that you very rarely get time to just sit and relax. Reclining in a fishing chair on a warm summers evening (enjoying a sneaky beer tucked away in your fishing bag) is one of the best ways you switch off and unwind.
The third great thing about fishing is that you get to absorb some wonderful scenery and nature. Spending a lot of time at the waters edge you will experience the world in a different light. There is little more spectacular than fishing through the night and watching the sunrise in the morning and the birds begin to wake up.
