Sleep apnea is today a common problem, and if you can sleep through your own snoring it can be a problem for people who are close to you.
Many dentists today, are becoming the forefront experts on obstructive sleep apnea, because they specialize in oral appliances that prevent it.
Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders have many ramifications on your health. Because it is a health issue many people want to know if insurance will cover their sleep apnea or snoring problems. Sleep disorders are medical problems not dental and therefore they are not covered under any dental insurances, even when you choose to use an oral appliance to resolve the problem. However it might be covered under your medical insurance. For that to happen several conditions must be met.
- 1. You should have a sleep study done.
- 2. You must have a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea
- 3. You must prove that you are intolerant to a CPAP.
It is unfortunate that snoring is not considered a medical necessary treatment unless all three conditions are met, as it is very disruptive to so many people. The sooner and the more proactive you will be in seeking help, the sooner you will be able to find out if you qualify for insurance benefits.
There are also some natural snoring remedies, but generally these are not covered by insurance.
